RUNNING / ATHLETICS PHOTOGRAPHY
Photographing running events is always inspiring. Running is a sport that doesn't come naturally to most; myself included, so it gives me great motivation and determination to capture some spectacular images that justify their raw talent and ability.
Like many sports, running has some pretty spectacular, world class events that I have been fortunate enough to be part of. Whether it be on the road or out in the bush, I will always push my limits to get those different and unique angles that athletes love to see and makes all their pain and suffering worth it.

Cathedral Peak Challenge Series
Nothing is more beautiful and spectacular, than that of the Drankensberg in South Africa. The Cathedral Peak Challenge was an event hosted by the hotel, where athletes would run from the hotel to the summit of the peak and back down, the fastest time over 4 events would take home the honours. I had the pleasure of covering every event; bar one due to medical issues, I felt extremely honoured and privileged to capture such a unique event at such a unique location. The event drew athletes from all around the country. from professional trail runners to the weekend warriors it was a pleasure to capture them all. I was also an honour to capture former Mrs South Africa; Nicole Capper, journey over the entire series as she strived to better her time ever time she took part. Its always such an honour to be part of an document such special and unique events. I hope that the series will return one day and we can head back to the beauty of the mountain. Comrades Marathon
The Comrades Marathon, known as the ultimate human race, is one of the toughest long distance road races in South Africa. This been said, it is always a pleasure to be part of such an amazing unique event. I have had the pleasure of covering the unique event, and that gave me a new respect for the training that goes into such an event, but as well as the pain and suffering every single runner has during the event. It is a great event to try capture emotion, as it is very hard to hide emotion when someone is in so much pain and concern training trying to get their way to the finish line. I take my hat off to every single person wh has completed the comrades in their life, and I hope to be part of many more events in the future, and to maybe, possibly, run one myself one day. VHS Athletics Day
Nothing is more exciting than the Olympic Games, However I haven't covered one, yet! So the next best thing is school sports days! It's always so great to get out doors and watch school kids have fun on the athletics track. From the kids who take it seriously, to those who are there to share a smile with friends, it's great to capture the pure happiness sport brings to a persons life. Being a sole photographer at a sports day brings its own unique challenges, from needing to be everywhere at the same time, to grabbing that perfect winning shot, I enjoyed the challenge of doing the best I could do. I hope to capture many more sports days in the future, and hopefully one day heading to the olympics to cover the biggest event of them all. |
Dargle Trails Festival
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of capturing the spectacular Dargle Trails Festival, based in the stunning Midlands of KZN. Known as an event for everyone, from a puppy dog run to a short cycle and horse back ride, the trail running always takes centre stage. I always love exploring the midlands and finding some breath taking places to take some unique and amazing images. I had lots of fun chasing after runners on the back of motor bikes and making sure I can get that perfect shot. I always pushed my limits to get the shot I needed, from climbing up banks, to stumbling over rocks, it was all worth it to get that perfect shot. To view my blog post from the event, click here |
October Fest
One of the most anticipated events on the KZN calendar, was the annual October Fest, and the sporting events that went with it. I have had the great pleasure of racing around the Midlands to grab some unique images of running taking on a rather fun and unique curse. The Octoberfest was a very fun orientated event, so I challenged myself to capture as much emotion as possible to represent how fun and enjoyable the event is. We all had fun; my driving crew and myself, chasing runners around in the rain and mud on the day. It is an event I really hope that one day will return to the calendar. Santa Fun Run
The Sharks; a professional local rugby team, hosted a very fun and enthusiastic Santa fun run for the kiddies to have a great day out in 2019. I was given the amazing opportunity to be the photographer to capture the excitement and happiness on all their faces as they ran around the action packed course around Kings Park Stadium. It brought such a smile to my face seeing everyone having so much fun and it is an honour to shoot such amazing events. The event was all focused on having fun and a good day out, I challenged myself to capture just that in every single photo I took. To view my blog post from the event, click here |
