This past weekend, I had the amazing opportunity to cover the first round of the Tinman Tri-Series, that took place at Suncoast Casino in Durban. It was Great to get behind my camera again to photograph a live sporting event, something I have been missing for quite sometime. Durban did not disappoint, perfect weather and sea conditions for all athletes. It also came as a great surprise that I knew quite a few of the athletes taking part, this always makes it the little bit more exciting as I can eager those on that I know. Full credit must go to the event organisers for putting together such an amazing event. The event had a variety of distances and formats to cater for everyone. for those who didn't like swimming, there was a duathlon option, and for those who liked swimming but were feeling a bit nervous, there was also shorter distances, for all fitness levels. Being a keen triathlete myself, I like to put myself in everyone's shoes, capturing the struggles of putting on socks and shoes on wet feet and the different levels of seriousness athletes take in the transition area. The bike leg, was a traditionally fast loop around beachfront. most athletes gave it their all, either working together or solo, they all flew around the course in; by that stage, pretty warm conditions. Finally the run leg, which took athletes towards Ushaka Marine World and back. Some athletes took the run more seriously than others, but in the end it was all about having fun. Darren Purtell, who had been dominating the event from the start, crossed the line first with a comprehensive victory in the mens full triathlon. It was so great to see so many athletes take part in such a unique event. From young and old, it looked like everyone had a great time! I once again congratulate the organisers for putting together such an amazing event.
