Just over a week ago, I once again had the pleasure of traveling up to Karkloof; in the KZN Midlands, to cover the annual Compendium Karkloof Burg Wheelers Road Race.
It is always such an honour to photograph such an iconic and unique event on the KZN Cycling calendar.

With the morning and day before presenting rain to all riders, a huge shout out must go to the organisers and committee for putting together such an awesome event, even in the tough conditions that they were put through. Registration once again was held in the warm dry area of the Karkloof farmers market, which also gave all riders a great opportunity to grab a cup of coffee, or 2 to get their legs ready and rolling for their respective races.

The course consisted of 2 40km loops for the main 80km event and 1 loop for the 40km event. The race did start in slightly damp wet conditions, but the majority of the roads were dry and perfect racing conditions.
For what I could see, the majority of the riders had huge smiles on their faces, irrespective if they were competitive or not, and in my eyes that means everyone was winning.
Was also great to see the numbers of entrants growing from previous years and I do hope that will continue for the years to come.

A massive well done to all the winners and riders who took part! as well as an even bigger well done to the race organisers and volunteers who stepped in to make it all possible.
